According to the "Book of Lists" public speaking (Sociophobia) is the number one fear for most people. In fact, it ranks higher than the fear of death (Necrophobia), which ranks 5th. What that means is if a person with this phobia were at a funeral, they would rather be in the coffin than delivering the eulogy. Or, if they were at an execution, they would rather be in the electric chair than delivering last rites.
